The Village of Carbon Hill board approved several Homecoming-related expenditures on March 4, 2025. Trustee Nicole Shain moved to approve a $9,000 contract with Mad Bomber Fireworks for the Homecoming celebration; Trustee Lori Togliatti seconded and the vote carried 5-0 with Trustee Paul Opyd absent. Shain also moved to approve a two-week advertisement in the Coal City Courant for $825; Trustee Gary Smith seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
Earlier in the evening Trustee Lorna Surman moved to authorize payment of $1,250 to have the American Legion band play at Homecoming. Trustee Gary Smith seconded that motion; the board rejected it by a 4-1 vote (Surman in favor; Trustees Charlie Shain, Nicole Shain, Gary Smith and Lori Togliatti opposed). The minutes note a Homecoming discussion that also included talk of selecting a grand marshal, but no grand marshal selection was recorded.
