Superintendent pitches Graduation Alliance to reconnect students who dropped out

Superintendent Robert Fitzpatrick outlined a proposal to work with the Graduation Alliance to locate students who have dropped out and help them complete coursework online toward a Cherokee County diploma.
"The Graduation Alliance is an organization, that helps locate students who have dropped out of school and are not on a graduation path... They work with the students to get them back in school and on the roster and provide them their education, through an online format," Fitzpatrick said. He told the board the district would not shoulder net additional costs because recovered students generate Average Daily Membership (ADM) funding that offsets the service fee.
Board members pressed Fitzpatrick on eligibility and procurement; he said the program serves students up to age 21 and that the district can follow procurement rules or use an available exemption for student services. Fitzpatrick said the district would provide further data on counts and outcomes at a later date.
