WEM Board approves hires, accepts resignations and records retirements

At its Feb. 23 meeting the WEM Board accepted a resignation effective Feb. 27, approved new hires and student helpers, and recorded two retirements effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year.
The WEM Board of Education on Feb. 23 approved a consent agenda that included personnel actions: the resignation of Christine Austin (Kitchen Assistant/Baker—Waterville), effective Feb. 27, 2026; new hires Shelby Strouth (paraprofessional, $16.54/hour) and Alexys Engel (Kitchen Assistant/Baker, $15.20/hour); and student helpers Raelyn Eich and Isabelle Bauer at $11.54/hour. The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Jay Schneider and seconded by Jon Bakken; the motion passed.
The board also recorded two retirements effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year: Jeffrey (Jeff) Boran, Activities Administrator/Community Education Director, and Thomas Walker, high school Spanish and social studies teacher. Later in the meeting the board approved an unpaid leave request for Tujwana Byers for March 30–April 10, 2026 (motion by Gary Michael, second Jeff Stangler).
