At its Dec. 18, 2024 annual organizational meeting the Sulphur Springs Union School District Board elected Trustee Denis DeFigueiredo president (5-0), installed other officers and designated administrative signatories for the 2024–2025 term.
Denis DeFigueiredo was elected president of the Sulphur Springs Union School District Board of Trustees during the board’s annual organizational meeting on Dec. 18, 2024. The nomination by Trustee Paola Jellings passed by a unanimous voice vote, and DeFigueiredo chaired the remainder of the meeting.
The board also elected Mrs. Shelley Weinstein as clerk and Mr. Ken Chase as presiding officer for the 2024–2025 term. The board designated Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi as the board secretary and appointed voting and alternate representatives to county and regional bodies, including Mrs. Paola Jellings as the district’s voting representative to the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization and Mr. Chase as the district’s representative to the Santa Clarita Valley Special Education Local Planning Area Board Liaison Committee.
Board votes on these organizational items were recorded as voice votes of 5–0 during the organizational meeting. The actions establish the board’s leadership and external liaisons for the coming year and set who may act on behalf of the district in intergovernmental and committee settings.
