Board approves FY26–27 capital projects; energy contract will fund major HVAC work

At the capital-projects item the administration presented a final capital budget that reflected priority requests from schools and departments and the timing of a favorable bond market. Pettit explained that timing allowed the district to increase bond proceeds this year to better support a planned energy performance contract with Schneider Electric, which will fund major HVAC and building-envelope work after an energy audit this fall.
Board members asked line-item questions — why a new $100,000 softball remediation was needed less than a year after recent field work and why $120,000 metal storage buildings were budgeted for band and competition-prop storage. Administration said the Gaffney softball drawings omitted a knee wall and the metal buildings would replace trailers and consolidate storage. The motion to approve capital projects for FY26–27 passed unanimously.
