Superintendent Helena Chirinian presented the Brookings-Harbor School District's proposed May 2026 bond measure and outlined facility needs and proposed project categories, including repairs to electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, roof and siding replacement, ADA accessibility improvements, traffic-safety improvements, technology infrastructure and outdoor spaces. "The presentation also reviewed the proposed local bond amount of $12.5 million, a potential $6.1 million state matching grant, and an estimated tax rate of $0.55 per $1,000 of assessed value," the superintendent said during the presentation.
Board members discussed how the projects would be prioritized and emphasized the need to communicate clearly to voters that the measure aims to preserve school infrastructure and protect the community's prior investments in district facilities. No vote or formal action was taken at the Feb. 18 information meeting; board members asked staff to provide clarifications on financing and timing before the board proceeds with next steps.
