April Olson, Director of Curriculum and Student Learning, presented the district’s Comprehensive Substance Use Prevention and Intervention Plan, which the board approved unanimously on June 17.
Olson said the plan was developed with input from the Equity Committee, counselors, health educators, social workers and community partners including Northwest Family Services. The plan outlines K–12 prevention education, district policies and procedures, communication practices, referral processes and staff training designed to meet Oregon Administrative Rule OAR 581-022-2045.
Board members asked questions about implementation and staff capacity; the plan’s strategic priorities include strengthening prevention education, improving early identification and intervention, increasing staff capacity and enhancing family and community partnerships. Director Michael Newman moved to approve the plan; Director Melissa Standley seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously.
