Junior high principal reports drop in failing students, credits counselors and interventions

Junior high principal Miss Lade said the school hosted a veterans assembly with 18 veterans and strong student engagement, then turned to academic monitoring and interventions. "At this point last year, I had a 134 students failing and this year we only had 87," she told trustees, and noted those students are tracked and pulled into counseling and recovery programs.
Lade said the school enforces recovery or summer-school requirements for 8th graders who fail core classes and holds regular care-team meetings to address chronic absenteeism and academic risks. Board members asked about total junior-high enrollment (reported as 649 for the campus) and how attendance and transfer students affect the failing-student counts; Lade said weekly tracking and targeted counselor outreach have likely contributed to the improvement.
