Family Resource Center Director Cheryl Harmon told the board the center distributed more than 200 school supply kits at the back‑to‑school fair and has already worked with 45 families (85 students) in the first six weeks of the school year. "We have so far this year, worked with 45 families, which amounts to 85 students," Harmon said, outlining assistance with utility bills, rent, transportation and other immediate needs.
Harmon told trustees that while the center leverages donations and a regional Service Integration Team (SIT) that can stretch modest local dollars into larger assistance packages, the primary systemic barrier remains housing availability and affordability in the district. She said Cascade sometimes transports students long distances so children can remain enrolled locally when families double up or temporarily relocate.
