Polk County sets tentative millage at 6.6348 mills; MSTU rates move forward

Polk County's proposed tentative operating millage rates were read into the record and adopted by the board during the public hearing. Budget staff read the statutorily required figures: "The fiscal year 25 26 proposed tentative millage rate is 6.6348 mills," a rate staff noted is 4.3% above the rolled-back countywide rate of 6.3607 mills and would generate an estimated $478,905,446 in revenue. Staff also read MSTU rates for parks (0.5286 mills), library (0.1985 mills), stormwater (0.0941 mills) and Rancho Benito (9.1272 mills), with corresponding rolled-back comparisons and revenue estimates.
Commissioners voted to set the tentative millage rates by motion and voice vote; the board later set the corresponding tentative budgets. Staff clarified one stormwater figure on request during the reading. The board scheduled the final public hearing to adopt a final millage and budget on Sept. 15, 2025.
