County staff asked the board to approve a consultant services agreement with Dewberry Engineers Inc. for design and permitting of a replacement boat ramp at Lake Marion, with a professional‑services cap of $496,930.66. Staff said the new site (made available by the recent Bellini Preserve purchase) will allow safer access, more parking, and better maneuverability compared with the existing launch on Jim Edwards Road.
The agreement covers permits, construction plans and specifications for the ramp, dock, access road and parking. Staff said the county will pursue state boating-improvement grants once the project is shovel‑ready. Commissioners asked about timing; staff answered design and permitting would take roughly a year with construction possibly taking another one to two years depending on grant availability. The board approved the consultant agreement by voice vote.
