Polk County Utilities water facility continued after notice/map error and resident concerns

Polk County Utilities (PCU) presented LDCU 2025‑11, a conditional‑use request for a potable water receiving facility with a 1,750,000‑gallon ground storage tank, treatment building and pump station to serve the East Regional Utility Service Area. Jim Tully, CIP manager for Polk County Utilities, told the commission the facility would blend alternative water supply from the Polk Regional Water Cooperative Southeast wellfield with raw groundwater from a newly drilled on‑site well and tie into existing distribution mains.
Residents near the proposed site asked about noise, secondary containment and stormwater drainage; one nearby resident, who said his property is adjacent, told commissioners the mailed map did not show the correct location. Legal counsel and staff recommended re‑advertising the item because the mailed map was misleading. The commission voted to continue the case to Sept. 10 to allow staff and PCU to re‑advertise with corrected notice and to provide added materials about noise attenuation and stormwater design.
