Staff to issue RFP for removal, storage and restoration of historic city seal

Staff will draft and post an RFP to assess removal, storage, and restoration options for the city seal with historic-preservation experience required; Historic Preservation chair said she will recuse from COA votes where she helped craft specifications.
Staff told the group they will prepare an RFP to evaluate options for removing, storing and restoring the city seal and to obtain professional cost estimates to support future funding requests. The RFP will require a site visit and vendors experienced in historic preservation.
"So, our intent was to develop that RFP, share it with, Carol, councilor Martenau, and then, put that out through the open gov process and see who we get specific," a staff member said. Council member and historic-preservation chair (S9) acknowledged she has been closely involved in developing specifications and said she "has to step back from 1 voting aspect" and will not vote on COA matters where she helped formulate recommendations.
Why it matters: the seal is approximately 100 years old, has undergone repairs that may have degraded its condition, and staff and council want professional assessment before committing to restoration and funding. Next steps: draft RFP, post in OpenGov, collect vendor assessments, and return to council with an award recommendation and funding estimate in September if timelines allow.
