Summary
General Counsel Amy Moore presented first readings of several policy updates, including clarifications to family and medical leave (combined spouse leave totals), communicable‑disease procedures (immunization compliance and clarification that eye drainage alone is not cause to send a student home), workload limits for special‑education teachers, travel‑policy procedural changes, and updates to investment and public‑data policies aligned with MSBA guidance.

General Counsel Amy Moore presented multiple policies for first reading and explained the process: the drafts will be posted for 30 days and return for a second reading at the next general meeting. Moore said policy 04/2004 (family and medical leave) includes clarifications of eligibility and that spouses who both work for the district are entitled to a combined total of 26 weeks of leave in a 12‑month period. On communicable diseases (policy 04/20) staff clarified procedures to reference compliance with Minnesota statute on immunizations and noted that eye drainage by itself is not a reason to send a student home.
Moore described additional proposed edits across workload limits for certain special‑education teachers (policy 4/27), travel policy updates to reference ride‑share services (policy 4/42), business policies in the 700 series aligning to Minnesota School Boards Association guidance (including investments and post‑employment benefit trusts), and a public‑data policy (7‑22) that newly includes a right for an individual subject to contest the accuracy of data the district holds. Director Kelsey Dawson asked about the rising burden of public‑data requests; Moore and board discussion noted some districts are spending months or years on single requests and that state and association guidance is evolving.
