Board approves new Intro to U.S. History elective for fall 2026

The Cherokee County School Board unanimously approved an innovative course application on June 8 to add an elective "Intro to U.S. History" beginning in the 2026–27 school year.
District presenters said the course was developed in response to requests from high‑school principals to provide extended, foundational instruction for students who struggle in the one‑semester US history course. The course will run across two semesters, emphasize content knowledge, historical vocabulary, primary‑ and secondary‑source analysis and evidence‑based writing, and align with South Carolina college‑and‑career‑readiness standards and the state constitution. Presenters said the elective will not carry a state EOC assessment.
The board approved the application unanimously. Staff said the course will allow time for teacher preparation and resource allocation prior to fall 2026 implementation.
