Pat Hyatt told the board: “We only get 7,900,” when describing typical charter funding per pupil compared with a district figure discussed in the meeting; she also said the school would not be allowed to discriminate against students with IEPs and must enroll them in the lottery process.
On admissions, presenters said the application proposes 20 students per classroom with a total cap of 300; when applications exceed the cap, state law requires a lottery and the school must accept students as they apply. The presenters also said the after‑school tutoring program and a grant application would support interventions for students not meeting grade level.
Board members asked for written documentation about services for special-needs students and specifics about staffing levels before any charter decision.
