Palisades board accepts custodian resignation as district faces $20,000 Title I cut

The Palisades School District Board of Directors on Jan. 27 accepted the resignation of Matthew Schott, who is leaving to take a job at Eastmont and will provide substitute grounds and custodial support in February until a replacement is found.
Molly Linville moved to accept the resignation; Taylor McDonald seconded and the motion passed. Superintendent Stephanie Andler told the board the district plans to ask current staff about covering duties before hiring a full-time replacement.
Andler also informed the board the district will lose about $20,000 in Title I federal funding for the 2025–26 school year because low-income students did not appear in the most recent Census count. The district is CEP-eligible and reported that "more than 71.8% of our students" qualify for free and reduced-price meals, a factor that usually supports Title I allocations.
Board members said they expect the shortfall to be a hardship and discussed limiting new hires where possible while the district evaluates internal staffing realignments.
