Students, parents press district on school safety and propose ERPO education

Madeline Rasor, a Corvallis School District student, told the board she fears school shootings and urged stronger action on gun control and safety measures. "Students cannot focus on learning and growth when they feel their physical safety is at risk," Rasor said. Cecilia Cox, a Crescent Valley High School student, proposed teaching Oregon's Extreme Risk Protection Order laws in middle and high school advisor sessions, saying awareness of those legal tools is "currently very low."
Director Chris Hawkins requested a follow-up meeting with students who expressed safety concerns to review existing measures and offer support. The public-record comments and supporting documents were archived with the meeting packet.
