Corvallis High School student representative Thomas Sherry told the Corvallis School District Board of Directors on Jan. 22 that students from Corvallis High, Crescent Valley High and other district schools participated in a peaceful walkout and march to the courthouse in response to recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity.
Sherry, speaking on behalf of the Corvallis High School Student Council, said the council appreciated the Board's recent resolution addressing the rights of undocumented students. He then raised a concern about district practice regarding parental notice and proposed "an amendment requiring timely notification to parents or guardians when immigration enforcement requests access to student records or information, unless prohibited by law or court order." The transcript records that proposal as Sherry's formal request to the Board.
