Board delays K–12 social science adoption for one year

The Corvallis School District Board of Directors voted unanimously March 5 to postpone adoption of proposed K–12 social science instructional materials for one year.
The postponement followed a curriculum adoption update and board questions from High School Coordinator Nikki McFarland and Middle School Coordinators Kim Johnson and Amy Lesan. Director Sami Al-Abdrabbuh moved to postpone and Co-Vice Chair Shauna Tominey seconded; the motion passed 7–0. The board recorded no amendment and no alternative adoption timeline was included in the meeting minutes.
Board members did not provide a formal statement of the reasons for postponement in the public meeting record beyond the presentation and Q&A; the curriculum update and supporting slides were posted with the information packet. The district will include the item on a future agenda once staff complete any additional review requested by the board.
