Community Development Manager Brandy Hinton said the property along Highway 81, adjacent to 14th Avenue Southeast, is currently used as a hotel and that the rezoning brings the parcel into conformance with the comprehensive land use plan. She noted the planning commission recommended approval unanimously at its July 9 meeting. The council opened a public hearing, heard no testimony, and voted to approve the ordinance at the second reading.
The measure passed on a voice vote with council members indicating no conflicts of interest. The change aligns the property's official zoning with its existing commercial use and allows future commercial uses consistent with C‑3 regulations.
