Campus equity plans spotlight Richardson High student groups and varied campus needs

Board members reviewed campus pathway-to-equity plans that let each campus define its 'problem of practice' and create a tailored theory of change and progress measures. Angie Lee said the district categorized campus plans into 11 problem areas — including student and campus culture, fine arts/academic opportunities, and discipline disproportionality — and reported the share of campuses working in each category.
Richardson High School was highlighted as an example: staff identified low diversity in clubs and organizations as a problem of practice and implemented a slate of student-led groups (Black Student Union, Asian Student Union, West African Student Union, Purple Rain Line Dance Team, guitar club and others). Lee said RHS rated itself at an 8 after implementation; campus leaders said the plan helped move the work forward. Trustees asked about sustainability and sponsorship; staff said each student organization requires an adult sponsor and campuses are building continuity into sponsorship and peer-led recruitment.
