RISD to pilot Upstander Partnership in spring as EDI team rolls out TEKS-aligned portal

The Richardson ISD Board of Trustees received an update on the district’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion work and the planned spring pilot of an Upstander Partnership with the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. Board President Chris Poteet opened the item and Superintendent Branham introduced the presentation.
Angie Lee, who leads the EDI team, described a portal of TEKS‑aligned resources, professional development for staff and grade-level museum “push-in” lessons designed to teach students to be “upstanders.” Lee said the program is designed to be customized to campus needs and aligned to the district’s graduate profile and TEA-required character traits. "We are doing everything that we do with heart and soul and that we are working tirelessly to put something of ourselves into what we do," Lee said.
Trustees pressed staff on implementation and pacing; Lee and administrators said a spring pilot will run at selected campuses across all learning communities, with a slow rollout, teacher training on the portal technology, and built-in beginning/middle/end assessments for progress monitoring. The board flagged teacher workload and requested that pilots include sufficient planning time and supports; staff said campuses can submit campus resource requests if they need extra allocations. The presentation noted the Upstander Partnership is currently a single partnership with the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum and is already in use in several area districts.
