On March 19, 2026, the Santiam Canyon School District Board of Directors held a work session at the district office conference room and completed a governance training facilitated by Janet Avila-Medina of the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA). Chair Elizabeth Reeser called the meeting to order at 6:08 p.m.; Board member Lynda Harrington moved to accept the agenda and Melissa Allison seconded. The motion passed 4-0.
The OSBA session reviewed the board’s core responsibilities, public meeting law basics, and the distinction between governance and management. Ms. Avila-Medina highlighted resources available through the OSBA membership portal and reminded members to complete required trainings and the upcoming Superintendent evaluation process. Staff member Krista Nieraeth thanked the Board for participating, noting the value of ongoing training for effective governance.
