Medford Education Association says bargaining "productive and demanding," warns contract may extend into summer

Jessica Fitzsimmons, president of the Medford Education Association, reported to the Board May 21 that bargaining sessions with the district have been both productive and demanding.
Fitzsimmons said participants generally feel heard and respected in the process and expressed appreciation for the district's human resources team. She highlighted continuing concerns about curriculum guide issues and noted the possibility that the district and union could enter the summer without a completed contract, while acknowledging progress on difficult items.
Her report framed bargaining as moving in a stronger place than the prior cycle, a shift she attributed to changes in district leadership and the use of interest-based bargaining practices. The Board heard the update and did not take action during the meeting.
