Presenter (speaker 1) opened the session by describing the district’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts and the team leading the work. The presenter said the EDI program aims to move beyond basic demographics to “equity, diversity and inclusion” tied to measurable student outcomes and family engagement. “Meraki es la palabra,” the presenter said, explaining the program is intended to be work done “with soul, creativity and love.”
The presenter gave concrete targets and organizational aims tied to the district’s strategic plan: a districtwide graduate profile (objective 3.1), a system for capturing evidence and training (objective 1.1), and family pathways (objective 4.3). Staff described a spring pilot rollout and named team members leading implementation. The presenter noted roughly 37,000 students in the district and described a significant multilingual/refugee population, information staff said is being used to design targeted supports. “37000 es un número muy grande,” the presenter said.
Why it matters: the district tied EDI work to measurable goals — training for administrators and teachers, curricular alignment, and family surveys — and is using pilot sites to test practices before scaling. The presentation emphasized integrating EDI into classroom practice and into the district’s portfolio and tracking systems so that progress can be measured over time.
What’s next: staff plan a pilot in Title I sites this spring, expanded family engagement work and another family survey to measure progress and refine the rollout.
