CES95 sees reading gains in STAR winter benchmark; district urges parent participation in 5Essentials

Michelle Martin, Director of Data Reporting and Programs, reviewed STAR winter benchmark results and said the district saw notable reading gains in several grades and some math improvements in early grades.
Martin said the reading benchmark summary shows percent of students at each proficiency level and that grades Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd and 7th "all had a greater than 3% increase in meet/exceed level." On math she noted K–3 also showed gains, though the district continues to work on math progress. She added that a change of 3% or higher is considered meaningful: "Any change of 3% or high is considered good progress." Martin encouraged parents to complete the 5Essentials survey and explained the district needs a 20% parent completion rate to receive a parent report.
The board received the data as a big-picture review; teachers used a SIP day to review class-level results and will continue to design instruction based on those findings.
