Sulphur Springs board adopts a package of updated nondiscrimination and student-support policies

At its Dec. 11 meeting the Sulphur Springs board unanimously approved a package of policy and administrative-regulation updates brought by Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jay Greenlinger. The updates included BP 0410 Nondiscrimination in District Programs; AP/AR 4030 Nondiscrimination in Employment; BP 4033 Lactation Accommodation; BP 5146 Married/Pregnant/Parenting Students; AR 5145.3 Nondiscrimination/Harassment; AR 5145.7 Sex Discrimination and Sex-Based Harassment; AR 5145.71 Complaint Procedures; and AR/AP 6173 Education for Homeless Children. Each item passed with a 5-0 voice vote.
Dr. Greenlinger told trustees the revisions "reflect changes in federal law and include recommended language from the California School Boards Association (CSBA)." The package updates statutes- and civil-rights–related language across employee and student policies, standardizing complaint procedures and clarifying supports for pregnant or parenting students and homeless children. The board recorded approvals for each policy in separate motions and votes; no amendments to the proposed language were recorded in the minutes.
