After November power shutoffs, board seeks attendance waiver and approves emergency-closure resolutions

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Joshua Randall told trustees Southern California Edison shut power "due to high winds and a fire alert in the Santa Clarita area," and that "the power was out from November 6 to November 8, 2024," prompting staff to prepare Form J-13A to request an allowance for attendance due to emergency conditions under state law.
Trustees voted 5-0 to approve the J-13A Attendance Waiver request and adopted Resolution R-24-66 (credit for State Preschool instructional time lost) and Resolution R-24-67 (credit for Expanded Learning Opportunity Program days lost). Dr. Randall said the outage affected essential operations including lighting and heating and rendered the sites unsafe for students. The board also approved reducing the 2024–25 instructional calendar from 180 to 177 days for the affected sites as part of the attendance-waiver process.
