Consultants recommend Gulf Road storm-sewer extension to reduce widespread flooding

Consultants told the committee that Gulf Road experiences widespread modelled and observed flooding that extends across long stretches of roadway. The team said the existing 1980s storm sewer to the west of Julius Drive could be extended eastward to Tyee Drive to capture and convey runoff at the bottom of the subwatershed.
"This is a big project and will require a lot of additional things to have happen beyond just the pipe network," Whitaker said, noting road and paving work and coordination needs. Presenters gave a preliminary figure of "also upwards of about $300" (transcript language incomplete); staff characterized the Gulf Road extension as a major capital project that will require prioritization, permitting and coordination with contractors able to work on the peninsula.
