Oroville council approves $50,925 in Hotel/Motel tax awards for 2025

Council members also reviewed letters from applicants. The Oroville Chamber of Commerce submitted two letters asking for $10,000 increases: one to raise its 2024 approved amount to $15,000 and one to increase its 2025 request by $10,000. The council agreed to place the Chamber’s request to raise the 2024 allocation to $15,000 on the Nov. 19 City Council meeting agenda for official consideration.
Council members discussed eligible uses of the Hotel/Motel tax and raised concerns about sustainability, noting the city receives roughly $25,000 per year in Hotel/Motel tax revenue and that large awards cannot be made every year without depleting available funds.
