Parks commission approves WAC housekeeping, delegates easement and lease actions

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission met April 16, 2026, in Spokane for a work session and an in-person commission meeting. Commissioners received updates on the Legislature, biennium finances and capital planning, and took three formal actions: adoption of housekeeping changes to state administrative code, delegation of a perpetual easement with the Department of Natural Resources for Steptoe Butte, and delegation to the director for a third amendment to the lease at Saint Edward State Park.
Commission Chair Holly Williams announced the meeting and staff introductions before the formal actions were taken. “Motion by Scott Merriman to approve the staff recommendation as proposed in the Requested Action above,” was recorded for the WAC item; the Commission approved that motion unanimously. On the Steptoe Butte item, the vote was recorded 5–1 with Commissioner Sophia Danenberg opposed. For the Saint Edward lease amendment, the record shows five votes in favor and one abstention (Ali Raad), and the motion was recorded as approved. Minutes and recordings will be posted on the Parks website within a week.
