Parks Commission delegates authority to Director to pursue up to two 2026 agency bills

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission on Aug. 27 approved staff recommendations asking the agency to develop up to two proposed agency-request bills for the 2026 legislative session and delegated authority to the Director to finalize those proposals and pursue Governor’s Office review.
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the staff-requested delegation. According to the recorded motion, the delegate authority allows the Director and designees to work with the Legislative Committee, the Governor’s policy and fiscal staff, and other interested parties to further develop any Governor-approved request and to pursue bill filing and work during the 2026 session. The motion was moved by Commissioner Scott Merriman and seconded by Commissioner Michael Latimer; the minutes record the vote as approved unanimously with Commissioners Raad and Danenberg absent for that action.
Commission staff presented draft legislation packets for Commission review before seeking delegation, and the Commission authorized staff to continue development under the parameters described. The record shows the action is procedural authorization rather than adoption of specific bill language; any bill filing will follow subsequent internal and executive review.
