Council hears State Auditor recommendation to expand bonding for city officials; action tabled

City Clerk Maureen Crabtree told the council the current city ordinance requires bonding for only the City Clerk and City Treasurer; she reported the State Auditor's Office recommends bonds for a broader set of positions including the Mayor, City Administrator, City Clerk, City Attorney, the municipal court positions, Chief of Police and City Treasurer. She said the Utility Billing Clerk and Assistant Clerk were added to the recommended list based on the city's recent insurance risk assessment.
City Attorney Jim Buzzard recommended bonding the Mayor, City Clerk, City Treasurer, Utility Billing Clerk and Assistant Clerk for a "reasonable amount" of $250,000 and urged council to consider which positions handle the most funds and whether bonding amounts should be increased. Councilman Jeramy Allman moved to table the ordinance for further information; Councilwoman Jodie Curtis seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
