Staff survey reignites debate over extended/alternative school calendars

A district staff member told the Stanfield School District board that multiple calendar options had been presented to staff and that a rapid survey unexpectedly showed strong support for an extended calendar variant. "I don't have any data that says a different calendar is gonna get better, like, academic results or is better for families necessarily," the district staff member said, urging caution.

Trustees and staff discussed next steps: reformatting outreach to ask focused yes/no questions (for example, whether staff want Thanksgiving week off or half‑day conferences) rather than presenting whole calendars, and studying operational impacts such as childcare needs and athletic scheduling. The board agreed to do more research and to follow up with clearer surveys and community input before advancing any calendar change.
