Superintendent Kim Kellison explained the request as a targeted intervention to shore up foundational reading skills for students still recovering from pandemic learning loss. Kellison said the district received a donor offer of about $150,000 to fund the purchase and related training. “We also had a donor offer to give us a $150,000 to shore up this area of our curriculum,” she told trustees while outlining why multiple vendor bids were difficult to obtain for the specific intervention being sought.
Before the motion, administrators described how site-license pricing and implementation complexity affected the procurement approach—paper site licenses were chosen for the smallest buildings because the vendor’s digital site license cost for tiny sites was prohibitive. The motion to adopt the materials was moved and seconded on the workshop floor and approved by a unanimous voice vote.
Board action: A motion to adopt the 95% supplemental materials for 2025–26 was made, seconded and passed unanimously by the board.
