ODE site assessment prompts district safety committee and Silvercrest seismic retrofit nearing completion

The superintendent presented an ODE safety and security site assessment and said the Office of Degree Education's team provided actionable recommendations. The district will form a centralized safety committee (required under state law, while retaining site-level committees) and begin monthly district-level safety meetings with rotating participation from local police and fire.
"This is a seismic retrofit, from ODE Grant, and it, is about a $1,700,000 project," the superintendent said, summarizing the Silvercrest project scope including a remodel of the library and music room and work on siding and roofing. She invited board members to tour the site when the project nears completion.
ODE recommended low-cost actions (updated classroom posters and evacuation maps), tabletop exercises and more comprehensive site safety checks. Board members discussed camera coverage, intercom upgrades, reunification procedures and trauma-sensitive drill design. District staff noted some improvements will be low cost while others (camera coverage, glazing changes) will require capital funding or grant support.
The superintendent said the district will present the ODE slideshow to building administrators and incorporate recommendations into a district Emergency Operations manual and communications templates for parents.
