Principals report reading, math gains at Central Howell and Pratham

Taryn Wold, principal of Central Howell and Pratham (speaker 18), briefed the board on school-level performance, reporting enrollment increases and specific assessment gains. At Central Howell, Wold said K–5 DIBELS results rose from 45% at the start of the year to 52% at midyear; she set a year-end reading goal of 78% at or above grade level. Wold also cited I-Ready math gains (from 8% to 31% at Central Howell midyear) and set a 65% year-end math goal.
Wold detailed similar improvements at Pratham: K–5 reading increased from 53% in September to 73% midyear, with a year-end goal of 80%; middle-school reading and math figures were high (midyear reading 88% at Pratham and math 90% for middle school), and Wold said there were no students currently in intervention in some middle grades. She also described PBIS rollouts, weekly assemblies, junior-coach and greenhouse projects, and parent-club engagement. Board members asked clarifying questions about how district assessment instruments align with the state report card, and Wold explained district assessments (DIBELS, I-Ready, STAR) differ from the Oregon state assessment in timing and reporting.
The report emphasized targeted literacy work, use of district PLCs and data-review processes, and a multi-prong approach including reading interventions, monthly character assemblies and family engagement nights.
