Zillah staff report: meter installs underway; Humane Society rates rising to $1,000 a month; 8th Street work starts

Public Works Director John Simmons reported at the Aug. 5 study session that crews have begun installing new utility meters but work will take time due to high temperatures. Simmons said the city received notice from the Humane Society that rates for 2025 "will rise to $1,000 per month," and that the 8th Street project started this week.
Community Development Director Ardele Steele said TIB applications have been submitted, Anytime Fitness construction is progressing, and Vintage Valley Plaza is advancing pending equipment hookups. Steele announced open-house meetings on Aug. 7 and Aug. 13 to discuss the Climent and Middle Housing elements. Clerk-Treasurer Shelli Quantrell said UB2 is being installed for utility billing and that she is programming a ClearGov budget system for use during the 2025 budget season.
