Taft ISD board certifies May 2 trustee election results; two trustees sworn in

At its May 11 meeting the Taft ISD Board approved the official canvas of the May 2 trustee election and swore in Diana Buendia and Matthew Banda. Totals released showed Diana Cortez Buendia 136 votes, Matthew Banda 130, David A. Sandoval 108, and Andy Hernandez 78.
The Taft Independent School District Board of Trustees on May 11 approved the Canvass Results Report for the May 2, 2026 trustee election and then held a swearing-in for newly elected trustees.
The board approved the official cumulative totals: Diana Cortez Buendia 136 votes; Matthew Banda 130; David A. Sandoval 108; and Andy Hernandez 78. Election Judge Melissa Hinojosa swore in Diana Buendia and Matthew Banda following certification. The motion to approve the canvass was made by Miranda Benedict and seconded by Paul Luis Treviño and carried unanimously.
