Board approves renaming of five campuses after community review

Following a community survey and facility naming committee recommendation, trustees approved new names for five campuses, updating titles to reflect revised campus purposes and early learning naming conventions.
The Richardson ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to rename five district campuses after a facility naming committee review and community survey.
Miss Hayes, who led the naming committee, said the committee engaged board members, principals, PTA representatives and facilities staff and collected roughly 440 community suggestions. The recommendations approved were: Greenwood Hills Elementary to Greenwood Hills Learning Center; Spring Valley Elementary to Spring Valley Learning Center; Thurgood Marshall Elementary to Thurgood Marshall Student Success Academy; Chris McAuliffe Learning Center to RISD Support Center; and Spring Ridge Elementary to Little Rams and Little Wildcats Child Learning Academy at Spring Ridge. "Part of our process was to put a survey out to the community," Hayes told trustees, explaining the committee sought names that align with each building's current purpose.
Trustees thanked committee members and noted community identity and location were important factors in the selections. The motion to adopt the names passed 5-0.
