Ridgefield Park committee reports composting program diverted 15,276 lbs. of food waste since inception

At the Jan. 22 meeting, the Sustainable RP committee reviewed the Village’s municipal composting metrics from Neighborhood Compost and the 12/15/25 end-of-year report. Meeting materials and correspondence note that since the program’s inception the Village has diverted 15,276 pounds of food waste from landfills.
Committee materials recorded 2025 totals as 7,766 pounds diverted during Jan.–Nov. 2025 with a monthly average of about 706 pounds; the Village currently lists 62 free program users (the program allows up to 100 free users). The minutes note that Ridgefield Park is one of seven Bergen County municipalities using Neighborhood Compost and that, among participating towns, Ridgefield Park ranked fifth in total pounds diverted and third in number of users.
The committee discussed continued promotion of the program and tracking of monthly pickups reported by Neighborhood Compost; an array of pickup notices and an end-of-year report were entered into the meeting record.
