Tom Bean ISD board amends 2025–26 calendar to add two student days

The Tom Bean Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Feb. 9 to amend the 2025–26 district calendar, converting Monday, April 6, from a professional development day to a school day and Monday, May 4, from a teacher workday to a school day.
"Motion made by Beth Hale to amend the 2025-2026 district calendar to convert Monday, April 6th from a Professional Development Day to a school day and Monday, May 4th from a teacher Workday to a School Day as recommended by the Superintendent; seconded by Shawna Merriman. Motion passed 7 in favor; 0 opposed," the meeting record states. The motion passed unanimously.
Board members were told the campus site-based committee will review calendar options in the coming week. Those options will be finalized and the district will conduct a survey to select the calendar recommended to the board. The change approved Feb. 9 takes effect for the 2025–26 school year and adjusts instructional days accordingly.
The board recorded the vote as 7–0 in favor: James Hamilton, Shawna Merriman, Scott Renfro, Beth Hale, Colten Miller, Steve Rogers and Tom Sharp.
