New Jefferson PUD general manager says reliability will be a top priority

Joe Wilson, introduced as Jefferson PUD's new general manager, told the Port Ludlow village council that improving reliability will be a primary focus of his tenure.
Wilson described his 30 years in the utility industry and recounted earlier power‑quality problems in the region, including transformer failures caused by downed trees. "We can be less reliable and invest less in the system and focus on great affordability, or we can try to boost the reliability," Wilson said, framing reliability decisions as tradeoffs the board and community must weigh.
Wilson said tree trimming, feeders and targeted substation work will be on his agenda and that staff will seek cost‑effective measures to address outages while being mindful of customer rates. He invited community feedback and said he plans outreach at the upcoming county fair.
Council members welcomed Wilson and emphasized the importance of balancing investment and rates when the board considers future budget and capital plans.
