Resident urges town action after Hope Valley disappears from 2026 map

At the Aug. 3 Hopkinton Town Council meeting a Hope Valley resident said the new Rand McNally 2026 map and some digital mapping tools no longer show 'Hope Valley,' and asked the town attorney to contact map publishers and state agencies to correct print and digital maps.
Martha Botel Vida, a Hope Valley resident, told the Hopkinton Town Council that printed and digital maps for 2026 no longer show the village name Hope Valley and instead label the area as Hopkinton or South Hopkinton. "Hope Valley has disappeared from the map and from mapping programs," she said, saying the change created navigation and delivery problems for residents.
Councilors and staff discussed the issue and told Vida they would look into the sources of the mapping data. One councilor suggested contacting Google Maps via its correction form, while others agreed staff would research whether Rand McNally or state records were the source of the change and whether a formal letter from the town attorney would help. The council did not take formal action beyond agreeing staff would try to "get their arms around it" and report back to the council.
