Commission endorses tentative $30-per-unit increase to residential fire assessment

Budget director Joshua Waters said the proposed FY2026 budget includes an increase to the residential fire assessment fee of $30 per unit and that nonresidential rates would rise by the same percentage on a per‑square‑foot basis. "We're recommending that the fire assessment fee for residential properties increase by $30 per unit," Waters told the commission.
Waters said the increase would push total net fire assessment revenue from about $29,000,000 to $32,300,000, and that approximately $2.7 million of that growth stems from the rate increase. The commission considered the final fire assessment rate resolution (previously acted on preliminarily in July) and adopted the resolution as presented; Waters reiterated the assessment revenue may be used to fund fire services only.
