Council rejects expansion to allow cannabis retailers at Paulsboro Plaza

Council debated Ordinance O.25.22, which would have amended the borough redevelopment plan to permit cannabis retail at Paulsboro Plaza. During the public hearing resident Sandy Birch asked, "How many cannabis retailers can the town have? Can we limit how many?" The lawyer for Boro Buds and the applicant, Mr. Peebles, addressed the Governing Body in support of permitting retail in the plaza.
Solicitor Maley explained the ordinance would only permit cannabis retail in the Paulsboro Plaza redevelopment area and that any retail application would still require Land Use Board site-plan review and approvals. On the final vote, the ordinance did not pass: Ayes were Council President Thomas and Councilman Singleton; Nays were Councilwoman Armistead, Councilman Haynes, and Councilwoman Turner; Councilwoman Evans abstained.
