Public Works reports 30 water meters replaced this year and new GIS mapping for valves and hydrants

At the Aug. 19 meeting, Public Works Director Jack Burton updated the council on water-system work, meter replacements and new GIS mapping.
Burton reported that he and a colleague had replaced 30 water meters so far this year; by comparison, they replaced 47 last year. He said the system total of meters is 417. Burton said he visited Jones and Associates to view the new GIS mapping that locates water meters, valves, and hydrants, and that the mapping will save time locating valves and meters during maintenance and emergencies. He said staff are exercising valves, planning valve-cleaning work and developing an improvement plan.
Council Member Bell noted that functioning valves reduce the number of residents inconvenienced during water isolation events and thanked Burton for his work.
