Mayor Adam MacNeill read a prepared statement at the Jan. 27 Board of Commissioners meeting addressing recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in New Jersey and the stress it has caused local families. "Ridgefield Park is a community built by immigrants, and our diversity makes us stronger," he said, and urged residents to seek help from municipal services and community organizations if they feel distressed.
MacNeill told attendees the Ridgefield Park Police Department "does not enforce civil immigration laws and does not ask about immigration status during everyday interactions," and said that approach follows New Jersey law and the Attorney General's Immigrant Trust directive designed to build trust between residents and local government. He encouraged anyone with questions or concerns to contact trusted local organizations and legal resources and said the Village will share further information as it becomes available.
