Taft ISD board approves consent agenda, policy updates and personnel actions

At its June 22 meeting the Taft ISD Board of Trustees approved several administrative and policy items grouped on the consent and action calendars.
The consent agenda — including minutes from May 11 and May 22, total expenditures and the summary of taxes paid through May 2026, and the Taft ISD Child Nutrition report — was approved on a motion by Diana Buendia, seconded by Matthew Banda, recorded as Passed. Trustees also approved an engagement letter with Gowland, Morales & Smith Company (motion by Diana Buendia, seconded by Nicole Garza), the 2026–27 Texas Teacher Evaluation & Support System (T-TESS) appraisal calendar and list (motion by Johnny Carvajal, seconded by Nicole Garza), and Policy Update 127 covering listed LEGAL and LOCAL policy codes (motion by Diana Buendia, seconded by Matthew Banda). All motions were recorded as Passed with five yea votes and one absence where noted.
Ms. Angel Lopez reviewed the student dress code recommendations for 2026–2027, and the Board approved those recommendations on a motion by Matthew Banda, seconded by Johnny Carvajal. The Board moved to closed session at 9:07 p.m. to consider personnel matters and reconvened at 9:52 p.m.; the public minutes do not detail the closed-session outcomes.
